Oscar-winning dramatic and documentary film writer-producer-director, Bill Guttentag and Emmy, Peabody, and Academy Award–winning documentarian Dan Sturman examine the importance of music during the U.S. civil rights movement that took place during the 1950s and '60s in their film "Soundtrack for a Revolution."
Fusing archival footage with the music of modern artists like John Legend and The Roots, they bring an important historical event alive to a younger generation.
By objectively making this historical time relevant to a younger generation, our goal was to raise this film's awareness among high school and college educators. We launched distribution and marketing of the award-winning Soundtrack for a Revolution in theaters and colleges across the country by arranging in depth post-screening Q&A’s at venues featuring filmmakers, civil rights leaders, and academic scholars. Our engagement and outreach efforts resulted in the film being selected for the Academy Awards Shortlist.
