The Hydro team sets up shop at Gay Pride in Palm Springs and gets to work on promoting PrEPnPlay in the most fun way we can muster!
Our recent work with the Desert Aids Project has proven to yield one of the most colorful and enjoyable campaigns we have been involved in to date.
To raise awareness of PrEP (a daily pill that prevents the contraction of the HIV virus) we created the 'PrEP N Play' campaign; a vehicle through which we could promote the medication in a fun, sexy and most importantly, pride-filled manner. The recent Palm Springs Pride celebration was the perfect opportunity for D.A.P. to launch the exciting new campaign.
And so, our team of Hydronauts set sail to the desert to spread the word. We conceived and constructed an eye-catching and aesthetically intriguing booth with numerous features designed to engage and excite the festival goers.
Here's just some of the experiences we had on offer:
Our Information booth was stocked to the brim with PrEP flyers, custom made PrEPnPlay condoms, bumper stickers and other helpful materials. It was manned by our team of trusty PrEP navigators.
The custom-made condoms that we had produced were one of the biggest hits of our weekend at Gay Pride. We distributed close to 2000 condoms! An invaluable and subtle way to get the message across in possibly one of the most relevant ways possible.
We provided a 'Boomerang Station' whereby festival goers could pose with our hilarious custom-made props and backgrounds which were designed on the surroundings of the iconic Coachella Valley. Thousands of the participants left with their own branded photos and boomerangs which they then shared on their own private social media accounts (contraception inception!).
A live camera crew, fronted by our host and interviewer Jason Tran, garnered hundreds of original stories and sexually positive experiences from the community to serve as some very rich social media material for the next few months. In a time of HIV prevention and in the context of our campaign message, we felt it paramount that the stories we are telling be nothing but realistic and identifiable.
We also enlisted the help of some local models to walk amongst the crowd, energize the atmosphere and encourage people to share their anecdotes.
All in all, it's safe to say that 'Operation PrEPnPlay' at Palm Springs Pride was a roaring success. Over the course of the weekend we managed to collect a plentitude of email addresses to provide the community with the information it needs to continue to be a safe population full of sexual positivity.
Over the next few months we shall be keeping the Hydro page updated with news and the newest exciting aspects of this campaign so stay tuned.
Needless to say, it's going to get interesting!
